Food and water together- Yes or No!
All the biological function that occurs in our body like digestion of food, absorption of nutrients, respiration etc, requires bio catalyst/ enzymes which fasten the reaction in the body.
Do you know if you artificially digest food in the lab in absence of any catalyst, it will take more than 60 years to digest. But our body digests the same amount of food in just 3-4 hours. That is the importance of enzymes in our life. If enzymes were not there, we must have craved for energy and the life would not have been possible.
We should thank God for this and should take care of this body.
There is one more thing to know here. Most of the enzymes in our body are composed of globular protein, i.e., it is soluble in water. So, when you eat food and the food reaches the stomach. Various enzymes enter the stomach at same time, so that it can digest food. At this time if you drink water, the enzyme gets soluble in water and are thrown out of the stomach and food cannot be digested in such a situation.
This food will be present in stomach for a longer time and can cause many gastro-intestinal diseases, like constipation and stomach gas.
That is one of the reason that our vedas instruct us to drink water at least half hour after eating food.
अगर खाना खाने के पहले पानी पिया जाये तो अमृत, अगर खाते समय पिया जाये तो दवा, अगर खाने के बाद पिया जाये तो ज़हर ।।
